The Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Championship of Kansas City presented by Zurich returns to Leawood South Country Club May 16-18, 2008. It’s the second year for this Duramed FUTURES Tour event, which features women golfers from around the world, working hard to play their way onto the LPGA Tour. Essentially the LPGA’s “farm system.”
Liz Janangelo, the winner of last year’s event, earned her LPGA Tour card for 2008, along with runner-up, Emily Bastel. So, it’s likely that you will see a future LPGAer up close and personal as 144 women from more than 25 countries will vie for their tour exemption and a better paycheck.
The event benefits the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas and Western Missouri and features a number of Pro Am events before the competition starts on Friday. I talked with Randy Williams, the Regional Vice President of the NKF at a Kick-Off Luncheon sponsored by Renaissance Financial, who described the event as a great way to get their message out that high blood pressure and diabetes are the two largest contributors of kidney disease.
Other sponsors for the event include: Mercedes Benz of KC, Zurich, RED Development, M & I Bank, Ambrose Packaging, Carter Broadcast Group and Midwest Airlines.
It’s going to be a great weekend to walk the course with your daughters and lower your risk factors in the process.
